Well, last evening, the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra provided a very nice array of Russian music for a far better than average audience at Grace Lutheran church in Eau Claire.
We performed Borodin's Petite Suite, which is not very petite to be honest. It is a terrific work that is purely Russian Romanticism at it's best, but not very petite...seven movements, which are not lengthy by themselves, but put together, makes for about 30 - 40 minutes of Russian joy. I enjoyed the piece very much as I believe the audience did as well. After intermission, the newest on the piano faculty at UWEC, Nathan Philips, performed Shostakovich's 1st piano concerto. It is actually deemed Concerto for piano, trumpet, and orchestra. Keith Thompson did a marvelous job as the trumpeter and Nathan didn't sound too shabby either :) We ended the concert with Prokofieff's Classical Symphony, which I have seen on Leonard Bernstein's concerts for young people. This piece was both light and frothy, but again, quite meaty. All in all, a fine concert in which I had a great time performing. Hopefully, the audience enjoyed it as well.
Unfortunately, the night did not continue as well due to the fact that we all had to drive home after the concert. Then, at about 1:30 am, Logan comes into our room mentioning he "threw up". Youch!!! Stacy went downstairs and slept on the couch while I was with Logan in our bed. He ended up vomiting another 6 times in the middle of the night and is now sound asleep on the couch as I write this blog. I am hoping this is one of those 24 hour episodes in which he just ate something funky. I am a bit more leary as a co-worker had a sister whose 12 year old son died last month as influenza got into his heart. Not fun!!! We are praying for the best and hope Logan is back up and running around in no time.
Well, that's it for now. I am really liking this blog thing. I may try to write more in the future.
